TechnoMoot 2009
4th CCIS (Computational Complexities-Innovations and Solutions)
Symposium 2009 at CIIT ABBOTTABAD.
Department of Mathematics, 11-12 May 2009
The 4th Symposium on “Computational Complexities-Innovations and Solutions” (CCIS) was held on 11-12 May 2009 as an integral part of TechnoMoot-2009. The symposium was a continuation of the previous three symposia held in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Objectives
The main objective of the symposium was to bring together computational scientists from all fields of traditional Sciences namely Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Medicine and all branches of Engineering in order to explore new avenues for promoting further research. Another objective of the symposium was to gather eminent scientists, educationists and industrialists from various walks of life to present their achievements in the field of computation.
Program
The Symposium was attended by more than 100 participants including prominent mathematicians and scientists from the National University of Science & Technology Rawalpindi, Air University Islamabad, GIK Topi, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), Islamabad, CIIT, Lahore, Islamia University Bahawalpur, GC University Faisalabad, FAST Islamabad and Karachi University. About 30 participants from local colleges also attended the symposium. During these two days 19 speakers delivered their talks on different fields of Mathematics including Computational Fluid Dynamics, Relativity, Group Theory and Numerical and Functional Analysis. 7 of the talks were delivered by young speakers including 5 from CIIT Abbottabad supervised by Prof. Dr. Tahira Haroon and Dr. Madad Khan. The participants appreciated the efforts of these young speakers.
Following were the keynote Speakers:
1. Prof. Dr. Asghar Qadir, NUST, Rawalpindi.
2. Prof. Dr. Saleem Asghar, CIIT Islamabad.
3. Prof. Tasneem M. Shah, Air University, Islamabad.
4. Prof. Dr. Syed Arif Kamal, Karachi University, Karachi.
5. Prof. Dr. Zafar Qureshi, Air University, Islamabad.
6. Prof. Dr. Md. Anwar Hussain, CIIT Islamabad.
7. Prof. Dr. Mohamed Nasr, CIIT Islamabad.
Day 1
At the outset, Mr. Adam Khan gave a brief introduction of the Department of Mathematics, CIIT Abbottabad. First session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Mohammad. Anwar Hussain, from CIIT Islamabad. The second session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Asghar Qadir from NUST, Rawalpindi.
Day 2
First session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Zafar Qureshi from Air University, Islamabad. The second session was chaired by by Prof. Dr. Q. K. Ghori from COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad.
The talks in the symposium were focused on the computational aspects of mathematics and their applications in Engineering, Physics and other areas. Prof. Dr. Asghar Qadir delivered an informative talk on the approximation techniques for the solutions of partial differential equations. In the Numerical approach to solutions, Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hussain explained transient behavior of heat transfer by natural convection. Prof. Dr. Saleem Asghar highlighted the usefulness of similarity transformations in obtaining the solutions of highly nonlinear partial differential equations arising in fluid flow problems.
In a very informative talk on Relativity delivered by Prof. Dr. Syed Arif Kamal, history of conceptual development of relativity as well as mathematical formulation of Lorentz Transformations was discussed. Contrary to the popular belief that Albert Einstein was solely responsible for the creation of the theory of relativity, he put into perspective the fundamental conceptual contributions of Muslim Scientists in the field of Relativity.
The talk delivered by Prof. Dr. Zafar Qureshi was focused on the applications of Mathematics to the engineering design of power reactors etc. He showed that the Monte Carlo Simulation had a wide range of applications and several advantages over standard deterministic techniques.
Prof. Dr. Tasneem M. Shah explained the Applications of Numerical techniques for Qualification of Thermal Protection System (TPS) and Liquid Propellant Rocket Engines (LPRE).
In the closing ceremony of the Symposium, Prof. Dr. Tahira Haroon, Head of the Mathematics Department, CIIT Abbottabad presented shields and certificates to the speakers and participants. She thanked all participants and speakers for their participation in the symposium. She also appreciated the efforts of the organizers of symposium.
The symposium proved to be a great success. The participants appreciated the efforts of CIIT Abbottabad for organizing such a mega event. They were particularly appreciative of the efforts of the Departments of Mathematics, CIIT Abbottabad for providing all participants an opportunity to participate in such a high tech event.
