Vision ICT – Vision Information & Communication Technology

 

Department of Computer Science, 10-11 May 2010

Vision ICT is the event arranged by Department of Computer Science under the umbrella of Technomoot. Vision ICT is organized as inter campus activity in which all campuses of CIIT participate in various activities. This year 4th event of Vision ICT was arranged in series. Following activities were arranged under Vision ICT 2010:

• Seminar

• Graduate Student’s Poster Competition

• Under Graduate Student’s Project Competition

• Quiz Competition

• Speed Programming Competition

• Gaming Competition

Event was yet another success on account of CIIT Abbottabad in general and Department of Computer Science in particular. Vision ICT provided a platform for students and faculty of different CIIT campuses to meet and share their experiences and ideas with each other. Events were spread over two days and were conducted in a very healthy and cordial environment.

Seminar was conducted on May 10, 2010. Speaker for the occasion was Dr. Junaid Mughal, Dean, Engineering Department, Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Technology Swabi. The topic of his talk was “Wireless Communications”. He enlightened the audience about the concepts and applications of wireless communication and infrastructure. He particularly emphasized on working of cellular networks in this context. The talk was followed by question answer session.

13 Posters of students form different CIIT campuses were dispalyed in Graduate student’s Poster competition. 2 judges from the department of Computer Science evaluated the posters. Atta-ur-Rehman from Abbottabad campus took the lead. His topic was “Energy Efficient Routing Protocol”. Sajjaad Ahmad of Abbottabad campus was declared runner up. His poster was on “Developing a Stemmer for Urdu Language”.

In Project Competition, 12 projects from all campuses of CIIT were displayed. Projects were developed by under graduate students. CIIT Wah campus grabbed first position for the project titled “Building Core Architecture for next Generation Network Services”. Second position was won by CIIT Abbottabad for the project titled “Network Monitoring Tool using WMI”. Students from Wah campus were Syed waqar Haider and Syed Zain Mehdi. Syed Adil Hassan and Syed Owais Ali Shah presented the runner up project.

One team from each CIIT campus participated in IT Quiz competition. Tough competition was observed in 3 rounds competition. CIIT Abbottabad got first position followed by CIIT Islamabad campus. Hammad Raza, Sami Akram and Sofia naureen represented Abbottabad campus while Islamabad campus was represented by Hozaima Shafqat, Mahim Shahid and rabie Zahid.

Very healthy participation in speed programming was observed. 32 students from various campuses participated in the event. The event trophy was picked up by Agam Saram of CIIT Lahore. Hussain Shafique of CIIT Abbottabad got second position in the competition.

Gaming competition was held on May 11, 2010. 32 students of all campuses participated and different rounds of gaming were held. CIIT Abbottabad won Medal of honour. Team comprised Zeeshan Qayum Khattak, Ajab Khan and Junaid Khan. Runner ups in the event were Zia-ud-Din Ahmed, Zohaib Shafique and Majid Ahmed of CIIT Wah campus.
