Vision ICT – Vision Information & Communication Technology

Vision ICT is a sub-event of the mega event TechnoMoot, which is organized by Department of Computer Science, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), Abbottabad annually.
Vision ICT – TechnoMoot-2009 provided a platform for conducting various IT-related activities with a focus on the challenges of the ICT world and quality education to the level of excellence.
A wide array of activities was included in Vision ICT namely:

Seminar
A seminar series was conducted in which renowned scholars from academia and industry delivered the talks on contemporary issues of ICT. The following talks were delivered:
- “A Pro-middleware for Grid Computing” by Dr. Rehan ul Rasool from SEECS NUST Islamabad. Dr. Rehan ul Rasool is working as Assistant Professor at NUST school of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences Islamabad. He delivered a very informative lecture on the said topic.
- “Presenting Linguistics in a Modern Way” by Mr. Waseem Afzal from AKSA Islamabad. Mr. Waseem Fazal is working as Managing Director AKSA solutions development Services, Islamabad. He delivered a comprehensive talk on the said
issue and participants came to know about various new methodologies that are being used to present linguistics in a modern way.
- “Web Application Security” by Mr. Muhammad Usman Saeed, xc0re Technologies, Islamabad. Muhammad Usman Saeed is CEO/Security consultant, Xcore Security Research Group. He made the session very interactive by giving a very enlightening lecture.
IT Quiz Competition
A quiz competition was conducted among the CIIT Campuses teams. The quiz covered all the core courses of Computer Science domain. There was a healthy competition among the teams and the event concluded in three rounds. CIIT Abbottabad team grabbed first prize and CIIT Lahore was declared runner-up.
On-Spot Programming Competition
Programming is considered to be the heart of Computer Scientist. Every computer scientist is expected to be able to write efficient computer programs to solve challenging real life problems. An On-Spot Programming competition was held to test the programming capabilities of the individual students of CIIT Campuses. They were given 90 minutes to solve four challenging problems. Two students were able to solve the problems within the given time limit.
Poster Competition (Graduate)
The graduate students were given the opportunity to present their recent research work through a poster competition. This provided them an opportunity to share their ideas with the experts. 10 students participated in the event. The experts appreciated the efforts of students and encouraged them to exhibit their creativity in such healthy competitions in future as well.
Poster Competition (Under Graduate)
Designing is a very important aspect in Computer Science and graphic designers can increase the value of a software by innovative, aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly user interface.
A graphics designing competition was held among the individual students of all CIIT Campuses. They were given the task of designing the logo of a Computer Science Department and to represent the concept of “The Future World” graphically. The students impressed the judges with their creative thinking and the students of CIIT Attock were declared victorious.
Project Competition
Projects that the students carry out in their final semester give them an opportunity to understand the practical applications of the all subjects they study in Computer Science. Many students come up with excellent ideas and product. The project competition provides the students an opportunity to compare their achievements with each other and receive accolades from evaluators and organizers. 10 projects from all CIIT Campuses were there in project competition. Students of CIIT Abbottabad won First prize on their project titled “Real War” and CIIT Islamabad team was declared runner-up team for their project titled “Creating Attacks Scenario on WLANs using NS2”.
Gaming Competition
The strategy based computer games test the reflexes, intelligence and agility of computer science students. Such games also serve as a means to motivate them to learn the state-of-the-art technologies that is there behind every game.
A gaming competition was held among individual students of CIIT Campuses. Two games “MOHAA” and “Strong Hold” were selected for the competition. Abbottabad and Islamabad campuses grabbed first position in both the games simultaneously.
