Environmental professionals are required for work in a wide
variety of positions for environmental engineering consulting firms,
environmental laboratories, wastewater and water treatment facilities, lead and
asbestos abatement contractors, manufacturing facilities, governmental
agencies, and other organizations requiring individuals to work in
environmentally related positions. The demand for professionals capable of
performing tasks such as sample collection, monitoring, data management, and
instrumentation calibration, operation and maintenance continues to increase.

Keeping in view the importance and the growing
demand for ‘Environmental Scientists’, CIIT Abbottabad has launched the
Department of Environmental Science with following taught and research
programs:

- BS 4 years bachelor degree programme
- MS taught and research programmes
- MS leading to PhD programme
- PhD direct programme for suitably qualified candidates
- Linkage with National and International Institutions and Organisations

The aim of this program is to prepare students, with a high level
of competence in scientific and technical knowledge and skills in Environmental
Science, for a career in governmental departments, commercial and industrial
enterprises and for advance degree study in Environmental Science. The
department will be useful to society and attractive to industries for social
and commercial reasons.

This degree is designed for the students with primary interest in
careers in environmental policy and analysis, education, consulting, or
management dealing with natural resource or environmental issues. The program
requires course work both the natural and social sciences, with a particular
focus on the relationship among science, management, and policy. The ultimate
purpose of the degree program is to prepare students to address ecological and
social systems with scientific understanding and an ability to make sense of
the complex underlying social and ecological context.

Research degree (MS and Ph.D) in Environmental Sciences is open
to graduate of Geography, Earth Sciences, Architecture, Agriculture and various
Engineering disciplines but it is also possible for graduates with a single
subject degree in chemistry, physics, biology, economics and politics to embark
on successful postgraduate training in Environmental Sciences.
