Department of Mathematics
Prespectives & Importance
Mathematics is the most important subject to achieve the highest standards in
education. Department of mathematics is offering more than 40 courses in
engineering, computer sciences, Management sciences and Environmental sciences
at undergraduate and graduate levels in the most professional manner. Our
faculty participated in different faculty development workshops organized by
various educational institutions within Pakistan. The faculty is also involved
in research with the researchers working in other disciplines such as
Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Computer sciences etc. Also a
strong research group is working in theoretical and computational fluid
mechanics. With in a short period of four years of its existence CIIT
Abbottabad has the honor of being the platform for producing more than 37
research papers. The department has launched MS leading to Ph.D program in
Applied Mathematics with special emphasis on Fluid Mechanics since Fall 2004.
Research is being conducted on:
- Newtonian & Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics.
- Wave Motion (Acoustic, elastic, electromangneticwaves)
- Bio Mechanics (Peristaltic motion)
- Computation Fluid Mechanics.
Job opportunities in almost all fields of life. For example, Electrical
Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Computer sciences, Environmental
sciences, Research organizations like KRL, PMO, MDC, PAEC etc., teaching as
well as a research career in these fields. Without knowing this subject you can
not be a good careerist in these fields.

Mission statement
As part of a large public research university the mission of the department is to teach
useful, interesting and relevant mathematics, and to extend the subject through
research. We have active research groups in Newtonian & Non-Newtonian fluid
mechanics, Number Theory, Topology and Group Theory.
In the broadest terms, the Department is committed:
- To offer a range of undergraduate programs designed to prepare students for
leading roles in Engineering, Science, business, industry and other careers. Of
equal importance with mathematical contents in these programs are the analytical
and problem-solving skills which find application in nearly every field of endeavor.
- To offer graduate programs leading to MS and Ph.D. degrees which enable
students to reach and expand frontiers of mathematical knowledge through
original research while acquiring a broad grasp of the current state of the field.
An important component of these programs is training in the skills of teaching and
communicating mathematics.
- To provide in all of these programs a supportive learning environment in which
students can develop to their maximum potential.
- To conduct research in mathematics, individually and in collaborative groups with
colleagues around the nation and the world, with the goal of increasing human
understanding of all mathematical notions and their applications.
