Real Interactive Video Distance Learning

In the Internet age, the distance between instructors and students who are earning distance learning courses can be thousands of miles, across multiple time zones, in different cities, states or even countries. There can be many forms of distance learning programs such as there is a “Distance learning Web portal” over the Internet and students and instructor interacts with each other using portal, Email system can be included for messaging, forums can be introduced for discussion, online “drop box” for submission of assignments, chat software can be used for live conversation.

In most of the distance learning program students starts studying by watching streamed Videos, downloading course materials but most of the time there is lack of face to face interaction.

In March 2008 COMSATS has started Distance Learning program initially for MS students of Management sciences department. What makes this program different from tradition distance learning programs is use of Video Conferencing equipment for face to face interaction among students sitting in remote sites. A web portal http://eeducation.ciit.edu.pk is operational for registered students. Students can access course material/lectures from portal.
This is three weeks course and following campuses are participating.

  • CIIT Islamabad
  • CIIT Abbottabad
  • CIIT WAH

Most attractive thing is the use of Video conferencing technology. Students can see live what is going on in Islamabad Campus and Wah Campus, instructor can discuss a case study and takes views of participants, students can ask question while lecture is being delivered. This takes real form of E-Education.

CISCO Lab
A Lab is established to equip students for hands on experience of CISCO devices such as routers, access points, & switches. This lab is adjacent to the Video Conferencing Room in Admin Block.

This lab is equipped with 6 CISCO Routers, 3 CISCO manage switches and 14 computers.
