| Engineering Resource Center |
| Introduction |
Engineering is integral to modern culture and are the primary engine behind much of the world’s economic growth. The field, moreover, continues to evolve at an astonishing pace. New technologies are introduced continually, and existing ones become obsolete almost as soon as they appear. Engineering in study is the combination of both theoretical knowledge as well as the practical implementation of this knowledge.
|
|
The Engineering Resource Center, a vision of the worthy director Dr. Haroon Rashid is formed in order to facilitate the students such that they can practically verify the theoretical knowledge in order to not only fulfill the demands of the modern world of science and technology but to also familiar with the needs of the industry. ERC makes the best possible efforts to impart the knowledge, which is tuned to the need of industry and up to date. For the purpose Lab work is extensively done with the students. The faculty involves the student in practical & research work. The Labs are open from 8:00 am to 6:15 pm where these students perform the practical work assigned and also remained involve in research.
The Engineering Resource Center was established with the inception of COMSATS Institute of Information Technology Abbottabad in January 2008. |
| |
| The Objectives of Engineering Resource Center are as follows |
- Operation and Maintenance of Engineering Labs
- Development of New Engineering Labs
- Optimal utilization of Engineering Labs
- Working on Industrial initiative
- Organizing and arranging Engineering based Training
- Managing a component, store for Development/students projects
- To support the Faculty for smooth Conduction of the Labs Experiments
|
| |
| ERC is overseen by the following Executive Committee |
- Dr. Haroon Rashid, Director, Chairman
- Dr. Mohammad Asmat Ullah Khan, HoD (EE)
- Dr. Iqtidar Ali Shah,GM (A&A), Member
- Mr. Sajjad Durrani, Head (ERC), Member

| Achievements of ERC |
Development of Electric Machine Lab
ERC Engineers and staff has within a short span of time designed, developed and assembled “A/C machine VSD based trainers” at a very low cost from the market in CIIT Abbottabad. These trainers have a market price of more than four lakes per panel but ERC has done the same work at a cost under one lake per panel. Eleven numbers of trainers for Electric Machine completed and are fully functional now. Microprocessor Trainers with a modified design are developed in CIIT Abbottabad Workshop by the ERC team
Development of Power System Lab
- Four numbers of “Power System VSD Based Trainers” are developed, designed and completed by ERC engineers and staff in CIIT Abbottabad for the power system lab and are fully functional now. In future plans these trainers will be hooked up with Generator system.
- The addition of ‘Variable Speed Drive’ done in CIIT Abbottabad in such a manner is a unique addition throughout Pakistan
- These state of the art trainers include Current Transformer, Phase Failure Relays, RPM Sensors, Remote/Local Selection with a working of both Single and Three Phase providing a great deal of help for the students in order to learn the concepts related to these devices
|
| Future plans of ERC |
The main goal of ERC is the development and up-gradation of engineering labs. In future the following labs are in phase of establishment and upgradation. PC1 for these labs is in the phase of tendering
- Microwave Communication Lab
- Instrumentation Lab
- Power Electronics Lab
- Electronics Lab
- Digital Electronics Lab
- Opto Electronics Lab
- VLSI Lab
|
 |
| The completion of these labs will help CIIT to produce engineers who can compete well in the industry as well as in the research and development field and will be able to compete the modern world in a better way. |
