CIIT Abbottabad - Milestones

CIIT Abbottabad campus is well known for its exponential growth in academic, extra curricular and knowledge sharing practices. Read below the success stories of CIIT Abbottabad and the achievements that have become milestones. All these milestones have been achieved by the vision of the Director, Dr. Haroon Rashid and by the devotion, efforts, continuous hard work and participation of every faculty member and staff at campus. These achievements are helping CIIT Abbottabad to get closer to its destination of getting International Recognition.
From a modest beginning with three departments and 121 student strength, three undergraduate programs and physical structure comprising old World-War II barracks, emerged the leading institute of the region which has now eight departments, a student strength of 5010 (41 fold increase), 12 undergraduate programs, 9 graduate programs, highly qualified faculty strength of 429 including 77 PhDs and 41 modern laboratories. Our physical infrastructure emulates the best educational institutions of country.

ISO Certification: A Unique Milestone Achieved
One of the most important achievements was the ISO 9001:2000 certification awarded to CIIT Abbottabad in 2008. The ISO 9001:2000 certification was awarded to CIIT Abbottabad for its ability to satisfy and comply with quality requirement standards. CIIT Abbottabad has the honor to lead the other campuses in this regard and that proves the teaching and research quality at this institution.

CIIT Abbottabad: One of the Top Ranking Research Oriented Institution

Our qualified faculty is second to none in research activities. CIIT Abbottabad is blessed with highly qualified faculty members who have put in all efforts in making this institute one of the largest and fastest growing research oriented institutions in Pakistan. The 2007-HEC Research Assessment Exercise had placed our institute's position as one of the top 10 research institutions, showing that departments are undertaking research of national and international excellence. As a result of recently published 2009 HEC Research Assessment, carried out on the basis of 2007 and 2008 research publications, CIIT has once again earned the singular honor of being ranked at number 5 among 114 institutions of higher education in the country on account of research output by its qualified faculty. Our commitment to the advancement of knowledge and our consistency in remarkable achievements and in research is evidence of our success. This success has led to the increasing number of students joining the CIIT every year.

National and International Level Events

Various national and international level events are organized each year at CIIT Abbottabad. All these events have resulted in mutual collaboration between CIIT Abbottabad and various organizations.

TechnoMoot
One of the major events that is organized by CIIT Abbottabad each year is TechnoMoot. All renowned universities of Pakistan participate in this event. TechnoMoot comprises various activities simultaneously organized to benefit students, researchers, learners and practitioners alike. The activities are EMCOT (Electrical Engineering), CCIS (Mathematics), CSE (Information Technology Center), Vision ICT (Computer Sciences) MILES (Management Sciences) and S. Dev (Environmental Sciences). Up till now, CIIT Abbottabad has organized three such successful events under the umbrella of TechnoMoot.

FIT (Frontiers of Information Technology)

Another important conference that is organized by CIIT Abbottabad each year is Frontiers of Information Technology (FIT). This workshop has been providing a cohesive networking opportunity to the international researchers to share their work since its inception. The first International workshop on Frontiers of Information Technology was organized by COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Pakistan. The event was co-sponsored by National Science Foundation, USA and COMSATS in cooperation with University of Illinois, Chicago and Purdue University. The workshop held annually till 2008. Up till now six such workshops have been organized. The 7th workshop of Frontiers of Information Technology (FIT) in its history will be held this year in Abbottabad Campus. Due to its intensive and broader involvement at the international level, FIT 2009 has been upgraded to an International Conference after holding its six FIT workshops in the past years.

ESDEV (International Conference on Environmentally Sustainable Development)

COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Abbottabad has always been aware of its social responsibility to contribute with research and awareness by knowledge sharing. The institute does not only envisage the modern and sound education to its students but also provides the platform for scholars and practitioners to propose policies for government and other stakeholders.
Since 2005, Environmentally Sustainable Development (ESDev) conference has been regularly held alternate year. Uptil now, three such workshops have been organized. The conferences wre aimed at:

• - Exploring the linkages among the environment, sustainable development & society.

• - Finding technological solutions in environmental remediation, alternate energy resources and resource management.

• - Promoting the integration of environment, sustainability, resources development in education in support of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainability, adopted for 2005-2015.

ALUMNI

Our graduates are competing with the graduates of other renowned universities and are employed in reputable organizations across the globe. 1606 students have successfully crossed the gates of this great institute up till now. Career Development Center (CDC) is providing quality career development programs and employment-related services in order to empower students to actively engage in the integration and implementation of their academic and employment choices. Major achievements of CDC include development of Marketing Plan of CDC which created awareness among students in choosing different careers options. Job interviews by various commercial banks in the campus have been successfully organized by this center, which have resulted in successful placement of our graduates in those banks and other organizations. Other major achievements of CDC include the following:

• - Industry Linkages with Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

• - Launch of CDC Portal.

• - Acquisition of Entrepreneurship related Portal prepared by UNIDO.

• - Workshops for understanding career grooming.

• - Seminars on Job related Skills.

• - Routine Dispatch of CV's of Graduating Students to Prospective Employers.

• - Facilitation of students in their internships.

Achievements of CCDU

COMSATS Community Development Unit (CCDU) is dedicated to improve organizations, and the people working in them, using theory and practice of positive and harmonious, structural and behavioral change, through a process of teaching people how to solve their problems, take advantage of opportunities, and earn, how to do better, improve and become more efficient. Major achievements of CCDU include the following:

- Built the capacity of more than 200 professionals and 800 community members in the field of Disaster Management.

- Developed Disaster Management Plans of different Union councils of District Mansehra.

- Developed Information, Education and Communication material in terms of Disaster Preparedness.

- Established Village Organization in different Union Councils of District Mansehra and Abbottabad

- Conducted 35 in-house trainings of different professionals of International, national NGOs and Government Departments.

The list of achievements of CIIT Abbottabad doesn't end here. We are thankful to Almighty ALLAH for what this campus has been able to achieve in this short span of time, since its inception, and we have devout hopes that this campus will be included in one of the best universities of world in very near future.
