COMSATS Workshop on Research and Computing (CWRC)

A Brief Overview
COMSATS Institute of Information Technology Abbottabad was proud to host CWRC “COMSATS Workshop Research on Computing” at Abbottabad Campus on the 27th day of October 2007.
CWRC was a very practical one day gathering of 300 Knowledge Management practitioners, researchers, scholars, academicians, graduates and undergraduates of the computing discipline, modeled within a Community of Practice framework across both the virtual and physical worlds. It was the sixth event in a series – First workshop of this series on Research on Computing CWRC Spring 2005 was conducted on April 29, 2005 at Hotel Greens, Abbottabad. In continuation of this series 2nd Workshop on Research in Computing CWRC Fall 2005 was conducted in Lahore on November 18th 2005. The 3rd Workshop of the same series on Research in Computing CWRC Spring 2006 was conducted in CIIT Wah Cantt on April 28th, 2006. The fourth CWRC Fall 2006 was held in CIIT Attock on November 10, 2006. The fifth Workshop CWRC Spring 2007 was held in CIIT Islamabad on July 6, 2007 and 6th CWRC Fall 2007, was hold at CIIT, Abbottabad, on October 27th, 2007.

CWRC Day Summary

Opening Ceremony
The overall CWRC was as a very structured 'knowledge sink', literature review and research exploring type day. We began with an opening ceremony in order to bring everyone together and place our conversations within the context of Knowledge Production as an entity which necessarily exists within any academic organization’s strategy.

Mr. Haider Zaman Nazim District Abbottabad honored the ceremony as chief guest. He appreciated the efforts that COMSATS Abbottabad has brought to implementation in order to develop the society by exploring knowledge and research.
Director COMSATS Abbottabad Dr. Haroon Rasheed, HOD CS Department COMSATS Islamabad Dr. Romana Aziz delivered their scholastic addresses at this wonderful event.

Technical Sessions
After opening ceremony we launched two parallel technical sessions of research papers presentation in which the graduates and undergraduates from various universities of Pakistan operate in public and private sectors including COMSATS, have presented their research work.

Technical Session One
Dr. Afaq an eminent computer science scholar chaired the technical session one and along with him Dr. Sajjad Mohsin and Dr. Saleem Farooqi participated as co-chairs of the session. Total ten research papers were presented in this session by the graduates and undergraduates.

Technical Session Two
Dr. Romana Aziz HOD CS department, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology Islamabad chaired the technical session two and along with her Dr. Maqbool Shiekh and Dr. Rafiq Asim participated as co-chairs of the session. Total nine research papers were presented in this session by the graduates and undergraduates where as expected papers to be presented were twelve.

Panel Discussion
After technical sessions end up a panel discussion forum have been arranged in a very conducive, collaborative and interactive manner. Dr. Romana Aziz, Dr. Maqbool Shiekh, Dr. Rafiq Asim, Dr. Afaq and Syed Jawad Hussain honored this event as panelists. The topic that was chosen to be discussed in this session was “Industry Expectation from Computer Science – Professionals and Curricula”. The rigorous interactive dialogue between participants and the panelists over this topic remain the point of interest including question/answer session.

Closing Ceremony
At the end of the day the CWRC was formally closed with a grand awards distribution ceremony. Dr. Haroon Rasheed, Director COMSATS Institute of Information Technology Abbottabad honored the closing ceremony as a chief guest. The graduates and undergraduates who presented the papers in CWRC received their awards in this ceremony.
