Mr. Zulfiqar A. Bhatti and Research Team from CIIT Abbottabad win Best Research Award

It is a matter of great honor for COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), Abbottabad that research paper by Mr. Zulfiqar A. Bhatti, Prof. Dr Iftikhar A. Raja and Dr. Qaisar Mahmood has been selected as the best Academia-Industry Linkage Research. The topic of the research was “Chemical Treatment of Domestic Wastewater using Waste Hydrogen Peroxide from a Food Industry”.

Mr. Zulfiqar Bhatti received the award on February 12, 2010 in a ceremony held in Governor House Peshawar. The award comprised a certificate, shield and cash prize. Honorable Governor Mr. Awais Ahmad Ghani, Patron of Academia-Industry-Government Roundtable (AIGR) appreciated the efforts of CIIT Abbottabad in the development activities of Hazara Region.

AIGR was established in 2009 at Directorate of Science and Technology (DoST) NWFP, Peshawar . Its main objectives are the placement of R&D graduates in industry, giving the Best Research Award to University Teachers, and the formulation of parameters for mapping a Five-year research roadmap in NWFP.

This great achievement has once again proved that CIIT Abbottabad is blessed with very competent faculty members who can rub their shoulders with the very best. Heartiest congratulations to all concerned from the CIIT Abbottabad's family!

Good News! Monograph written by Dr. Qaisar Mahmood from CIIT Abbottabad published in Germany .

The monograph entitled "Anoxic sulfide biooxidation using nitrite as electron acceptor", with ISBN 978-3-8383-3405-9, written by Dr. Qaisar Mahmood, Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Sciences, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) Abbottabad, has been published in Germany by LAP (Lambert Academic Publishing), AG & Co. KG Germany ( www.lap-publishing.com ). It is another great achievement for Dr. Qaisar Mahmood. Dr. Qaisar Mahmood is a very productive scientist and is continuously publishing many research articles in high impact factor journals in the areas of Environmental Engineering, Environmental Biotechnology and Microbiology.

Prof. Dr. Ishtiaq Jadoon from CIIT Abbottabad wins Research Grant for his Project titled Tectonic map of central and western Sulaiman fold belt, Pakistan

Dr. Ishtiaq Jadoon, Professor, Department of Environmental Sciences, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) Abbottabad has won research grant awarded by Tullow Pakistan (Development) Limited for his project titled “Tectonic map of central and western Sulaiman fold belt, Pakistan” . This indeed is a great achievement not only for him but for the CIIT Abbottabad's family and will open new doors for Academia-Industry collaborations.

The central Sulaiman fold belt exhibits a complex system of folds-and-faults between Dera Gazi Khan and Quetta . It is one of the seismically, most active area, in Pakistan and of an interest for hydrocarbon exploration. Unfortunately, the area is politically unstable with the absence of reliable geological maps.

The publication of the tectonic map of the central and western Sulaiman fold belt is aimed at improving our knowledge about the geology of the area both for earthquake seismology and hydrocarbon exploration.

Dr. Abdul Mateen Awan has been selected as HEC approved supervisor

Dr. Abdul Mateen Awan, Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Sciences, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), Abbottabad has been selected as HEC approved supervisor. He is actively involved in research work since 2000 and has published many international research papers.

Prof. Dr Izhar Hussain & Dr Umar Farooq from CIIT Abbottabad Honored

Prof. Dr Izhar Hussain, Chairman & HoD, Department of Pharmacy and Dr Umar Farooq, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry both from COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) Abbottabad have been honored with Research Productivity Allowance for the year 2008 – 2009, in recognition of excellence for their respective research work, by Pakistan Council for Science and Technology (PCST), Ministry of Science and Technology, Islamabad.

The Research Productivity Allowance is granted to active scientists of Pakistan on the basis of their publications in International Journals and their performance, as evaluated empirically by Journal Impact Factors, Citations and Peer Review. This initiative of Ministry of Science and Technology is meant to promote quality research grant and to attract the brightest researchers to opt for careers in various Scientific and Technological fields.

According to the PCST recently displayed result of Research Productivity Allowance for the year 2008 – 2009, the Peer Review Committee of PCST after examining the research work of 18 Scientists in the Discipline of Pharmaceutical Sciences, from all over  Pakistan, recommended only three Scientists for the award of Research Productivity Allowance and Professor Dr. Izhar Hussain being one of them.

This achievement is not only the recognition and appreciation of both of these Professors research work at National level but also is an honor for COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Abbottabad that two of its faculty members have been able to qualify for the award of this prestigious Research Productivity Allowance.

Dr Robina Farooq and her PhD scholar Ms. Maria Siddique win First University-Industry Research Grant, worth Rs. 4.25 Million.

Head of Chemistry Department Dr Robina Farooq and her PhD research scholar Ms. Maria Siddique from Department of Environmental Sciences win, for COMSATS Abbottabad, First University-Industry Research Grant, worth Rs. 4.25 Million, awarded by Higher Education Commission, Pakistan under University Industry Technology Support Program. Winning research grant, during this hard time, shows the importance and strength of their research project titled, “Treatment of Textile Effluents by Combination of Ultrasonic Cavitations of Electrochemical Oxidation”. This great achievement is not only an honor for Dr. Robina, Ms. Maria Siddique and CIIT Abbottabad, but also proves the quality of research work being carried out at this campus.

Dr. Jamshed Iqbal wins Research Grant from HEC worth Rs. 7.065 Million

Dr. Jamshed Iqbal, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacy, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), Abbottabad has won research grant worth Rs. 7.065 Million, awarded by Higher Education Commission, Pakistan for his research project titled “Cloning and Expression of human enzymes in Escherichia coli and development of high throughput capillary elctrophoresis and microchip based nano scale test system for analysis of inhibitors".

This great achievement is not only an honor for Dr Jamshed Iqbal but also shows the level of research work being carried out at CIIT, Abbottabad campus. This achievement will definitely help CIIT Abbottabad to move a step forward in its journey of getting International recognition.

Dr. Jamshed Iqbal has published more than 25 research papers, in International Journals of very high credibility and presently he has nearly 26 cumulative impact factor. He is currently doing his Post-Doctoral research work at Pharmaceutical Institute, University of Bonn, Germany.

Dr. Arjumand Zaidi wins Best Practice-Oriented Paper Award

It is a matter of great honor and prestige for COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), Abbottabad that Dr. Arjumand Zaidi, Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Sciences has won the Best Practice- Oriented Paper Award by the ASCE Journal of Water Resources in USA for her paper titled “How to Include Economic Analysis in TMDL Allocation”.
This award will be presented to her during the World Environmental & Water Resources Congress that will be held in Kansas City, Missouri, USA on 17-21 May 2009. This is not only an important milestone in her career but has also added another feather in CIIT  Abbottabad’s cap.

Dr. Qaisar Mahmood has been selected as HEC approved supervisor

Dr. Qaisar Mahmood, Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Sciences, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), Abbottabad has been selected as HEC approved supervisor. He is actively involved in research work since 2004 and has published more than 60 international research papers with cumulative impact factor of 61. He has been included in the list of Productive Scientists of Pakistan in 2008.

 

Pubplished paper of Dr. Izhar Hussain included among Top Ten

A published research paper of Professor Dr. Izhar Hussain that was previously included among the referees in the December 2008 volume of CrystEngComm of Royal Society of Chemsitry Publications has now been included among the "Top Ten" most accessed papers of the journal having Impact Factor 3.468.

The title of the article is "Ten years of Co-crystal Synthesis; the good, the bad and the ugly". This acheivment is not only the recognition and further appreciation of Dr. Izhar's reserach work at International level but also is an honor for COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Abbottabad, that a joint reserach contirbution from this institution and the Kansas State University, Manhattan, USA has been able to get one of these top places.

Visit of the senior faculty to HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry Karachi

The senior faculty members of the Chemistry Department of CIIT Abbottabad are visiting the HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry and other research institutions of the Karachi University. The delegation is headed by Dr. Rubina Farooq (Head of Chemistry Department), Prof. Dr. Rehana Rashid, Dr. M. Riaz and Dr. Abida Khan. These faculty members are visiting the research institutes with the aim to establish research linkages. Read more...
